How to Change Your Email Address on Facebook

Using the same email gives a certain level of convenience. If most of us had things working our way, I'm sure we would want to maintain the one email. However, if for some reason you've had to create a new email account and would want to replace the old one with it on your already existing Facebook account, it is easy to get it done. Read on to find out how to change your email address on Facebook.

You are allowed to make changes to your email address on Facebook. How to change an email address on both desktop and mobile devices will be looked at to ensure users of either device benefit from this post.

Steps to Changing Your Email address on Facebook

Changing on iOS

• Open your Facebook application
• Tap the menu bar on the bottom right corner
• Select Settings
• Select Account Settings
• Tap
• Select Email
• Tap Add Email Address 
• Enter the new email address and your Facebook login password into the spaces provided
• Tap the Add Email button

This will add the new email to the list of emails associated with your Facebook account. To ensure that this new account will be used by Facebook to send you notifications etc, you have to make the new one your primary email. To get this done, follow the steps below.

• Tap Primary Email

This will take you to a page where you can tap on any of the emails you have on record to set that email as your primary. This is the email that Facebook uses to contact you if you have email notifications on, as well as the email you'll use to log into Facebook.

• Tap the new email which you've just added
• Tap Save

Changing on Android

• Open your Facebook application
• Tap the menu bar on the top right corner 
• Scroll down to find and select Account Settings
• Tap General
• Tap Email

This will bring up will a new window with all of the email accounts you have linked to your Facebook. 

1. If you only have one email address linked to your Facebook account, that email is the default primary email
2. If you want to delete an email address, click on the "Remove" link to the right of it
3. If you already have multiple emails associated with your account and simply want to change the primary to one of those, skip the next seven steps and get right on to the eighth.

• Click Add Email Address
• Enter the new email and your Facebook login password in the spaces provided
• Tap Add Email

You will be sent a confirmation email by Facebook with a special confirmation number. Check your email for the special code and retrieve it.

• Go back to where you left off on Facebook
• Click Confirm Email Address
• Enter the code you retrieved correctly
• Click Confirm
• Click the Primary Email button to select an email you wish to make primary
• Click on the email you just added. A checkmark will appear to the right of it.
• Enter your Facebook login password in the space provided below
• Tap the Save button

Changing on Desktop

• Visit the Facebook website via https://www.facebook.com and enter your login details to log in
• Click the downward-facing arrow on the top right corner
• Select Settings from the drop-down menu. This will bring you to your "General Account Settings" window
• Click Contact
• If the email address you want to change to is already linked to your Facebook account, click the radio button beside it in the Primary Contact area to make it your primary email
• If you want to change the incumbent email to a new one not linked with Facebook, click the Add another email or mobile number link
• Enter the new email address and your Facebook login in the spaces provided
• Click Save Changes

This email will now be added to the list of emails linked to your Facebook account. Be sure to click the radio button beside this new email in the "Primary Contact" area to make it your primary email. If you want to remove an email, click the Remove option beside every email address listed there.
